Star Wars hardly needs any introduction. George Lucas' space opera classic, Star Wars has spawned many sequels and will soon spawn some more, and its characters and vehicles are some of the most iconic and recognisable in film history. From the flashing lightsabres to the X-Wing fighter, through to Darth Vader (who re-defined the word "loom"), the images from Star Wars are familiar to almost everyone.

Star Wars has its Japanese connections too. The basic narrative of the original film was taken from Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood, and the word "jedi" comes from the Japanese word "jidai", meaning "era" - "jidai geki" is the term used to describe period films such as Throne of Blood. And the influence of Star Wars is present in Gundam. Generations of Japanese robots and costumed heroes have used "beam sabres" or "laser blades", and Char could be described as Japan's equivalent of Vader. He borrowed Vader's helmet design, for starters!

In the words of Master Yoda: "Do, or do not. There is no try." - which we think works much better than "The enemy of grammar, I am."
